Dog makes a perfect addition to any family with young kids, as most children love dogs! They’re cuddly, cute and oh-so-friendly and the Internet will second this statement as it is filled with cute pictures/videos of kids and dogs having a gala time! Whether it’s playing with a pooch or petting a purring kitty, there’s no doubt that pets can bring their owners (young and old) plenty of joy. But the advantages of pet ownership go well beyond the fact that they’re cuddly and lots of fun. So if you’ve been wondering whether this is the right time to add a four-legged pooch to your family, here are a few reasons why getting a pet may be a very good idea:
1. An Active Lifestyle
Kids with dogs as pets, exercise more during a day when compared to their non-dog owning peers. All dogs require daily walks and plenty of play time and those adorable puppy eyes they give you are sure to motivate you, even when you’re not feeling up to it.
2. Constant Companionship
A pet provides constant companionship through ups and downs of a kid’s life. Dogs are a great source of comfort for kids. Whenever a kid feels afraid or angry or sad, they can always turn to their pets. Cuddling dogs has a stress relieving effect on the people.
3. Improves Immunity
Babies raised in close proximity to pets get sick less often, which means fewer visits to paediatrician. Exposure to microbes and germs that pet carry into the home from outdoors improves babies’ immune systems. Children, who grow up with dogs in the house, experience a reduced risk of allergies.
4. Learning Responsibility
Children learn compassion and empathy by caring for their pets. They develop a higher level of self-esteem by taking care of their pet by owning responsibilities. Making sure that the dog has food and water, gives them their first glimpse of accountability and obligation.
5. Makes them Happier
Interaction with dogs has proven to increase the levels of dopamine, the happy hormone which increases the positive feelings in humans. Besides playing and interacting with dogs is bound to brighten anyone’s day.
Growing up with a dog can enrich our as well as our children’s lives in so many ways. Having a dog join your family may be one of the greatest gifts we can give our kids.
